You’ve booked your trip, started packing, and are hoping to arrange for your pup to stay at Waggles Pet Resort. But before check-in, there’s just one question that lingers: “What vaccinations are required to board my dog?”
At Waggles, we take the health and safety of every dog seriously. And that begins with making certain every guest is properly protected from the most common illnesses.
Uncertain what vaccinations are required for boarding your dog? Let’s walk through what’s needed, why it matters, and how to make the process simple.
Why Boarding Facilities Require Vaccinations
When dogs from different homes share common space, they can also share germs. Boarding requirements aren’t just about your dog’s safety. They also protect every pup in our care.
Vaccinations help to reduce the risk of contagious illnesses, particularly respiratory infections that can spread quickly in social environments. Making sure your dog is protected helps to keep Waggles a clean, safe place for play, rest, and TLC.
Required Vaccinations at Waggles Pet Resort
Before your dog checks in, our team will need confirmation of these core vaccinations:
- Rabies: This vaccine is required by law and protects your dog (and everyone around them) from a deadly virus affecting the central nervous system. Proof of current rabies vaccination is a must.
- Distemper: Distemper is a highly contagious viral disease attacking the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. Combination vaccines (like DHPP), can protect against multiple serious diseases, including parvovirus and canine hepatitis.
- Bordetella: Also known as the “canine cough” vaccine, this one is crucial for dogs who will be around others in a boarding or daycare setting.
At Waggles, we strongly recommend the Canine Influenza vaccine as well. While not mandatory, it offers an extra layer of protection against another highly contagious illness, especially for social pups.
When Should You Schedule Vaccinations?
Vaccinations must be current before your dog arrives at Waggles. We recommend checking with your veterinarian at least two weeks ahead of your reservation. That gives you time for any booster shots or updates if needed, while giving the vaccines time to do their job.
